Or step back in time during a “Skagway Street Car” motorized tour, the first of its kind during the 19th century. Created by a famous local storyteller, this excursion takes you to landmarks with narration from a costumed conductor. Elias National Park is the largest national park in the United States, with a size greater than that of some European nations combined. Containing a famous mountain range, sweeping glaciers and a unique Yukon Gold Rush history, this Alaska national park has more to explore than is imaginable. Kenai Fjords National Park is brimming with memorable scenery and is near the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge® — one of the most accessible ways to experience the wilderness.
Alaska Cruise Ports of Call
Originally launched in 2004, the Sapphire Princess was refurbished in 2018, and can hold 2,670 guests and 1,100 crew. Cruises include scenic cruising of Glacier Bay National Park as well as College Fjord and the Hubbard Glacier. For 2023, Sapphire Princess will be sailing out of both Vancouver and Anchorage (Whittier), visiting Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Anchorage, Icy Strait Point and Sitka, Alaska.
The largest tidewater glacier in North America, Hubbard Glacier has been moving its mass towards the ocean at a rate faster than most of its kind. Towering above the water over 30 stories, the glacier often calves 100-foot chunks of ice into the ocean. What lies beneath the waves is almost as impressive, where ice plunges 1,200 feet beneath the surface. This 30-mile waterway is surrounded by cliffs, valleys and dozens of waterfalls.
Go flightseeing by Denali’s snow-covered peak, fly-fish for Arctic grayling, raft the Nenana River or venture into Denali on a park tour. Let Princess pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your ship or hotel when you arrive, even if you didn't book your airfare through us. Alaskans are inviting people who love to share what makes their state unique.
Alaska Ports of Call
It’s important to book as far in advance as you can to ensure your vacation isn’t affected by your first option being sold out. While Alaska’s natural sites are not necessarily moving around in the same way the animals do, the constantly changing weather means a lot is left up to chance. During our tour, we were part of the unlucky 70 percent of visitors who didn't get to see the mountain Denali since it was constantly shrouded in clouds. That said, we did see some fantastic scenery both during our land tour (especially the turquoise waters of the Kenai River) and from the ship, and I was blown away by Alaska’s dramatic and expansive landscapes. As September begins, the sun dips below the horizon signifying the inauguration of fall.
Tour Features and Highlights:
Gaze at the water’s surface as thousands of bald eagles congregate to enjoy the final salmon of the season. On our Voyage of the Glaciers cruise, encounter unique ports of call that are rich in history, culture and natural beauty. Home to the highest mountain in North America, Denali National Park is brimming with magnificence.
